Abstract
The Westminster Healthier Catering Awards has recognised 18 businesses in the area in providing healthier food and drink options to combat childhood obesity.

The recipients of the awards, including Elior at Westminster City Hall Canteen, LHA London, Benugo and KFC, took action by reducing portion sizes, making healthy swaps and reducing salt, as advised by the Westminster City Council.

Heather Acton, cabinet member for adults and public health at Westminster City Council, said: “Today’s award winners are proving that small changes in recipes can bring big health benefits. Tackling childhood obesity is one of the biggest challenges facing Westminster.

“These local businesses are providing Westminster children with a healthier eating option, and the awards recognise their important contribution.”

The fight against childhood obesity has been a priority for Westminster City Council as almost one in four children in reception year are overweight or obese, which rises to one in three by year six. Westminster exceeds the London and England average in both categories.
