Abstract
Washingborough Academy has achieved a gold Food for Life Award for the sixth consecutive year after serving healthy and sustainable food to schoolchildren.

As a gold FFLSH award-holder, they ensure that over a quarter of their spend is on organic produce, over 60% is on produce grown/made in the UK and over a quarter is on produce from their region.

Their headteacher Jason O’Rourke is the Founder of TastEd, which opens doors to healthier food choices for children through sensory based-food education.

Caron Longden, senior business development manager, said: “It’s inspiring to hear about the work Jason is doing at Aurum Academies. To retain the gold award in these challenging times is testament to the commitment from the school put on serving food that has impact on our climate, nature and the health of their students.

“This success is an incredible testament to the school and catering staff, and their dedication to the children they feed. We recognise the turbulent time that public sector caterers are facing, with supply chain issues and staff shortages.”
