ViVAS steadfast in economic downturn

18th May 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
ViVAS - the joint venture between foodservice wholesaler 3663 First for Foodservice and Bibendum Wine Ltd - has recorded strong results at the end of its first year of trading despite the impact of market conditions.
"Who could have predicted that the business landscape would change so dramatically when we launched last April," said Michael Saunders, managing director of Bibendum. "It would be remiss of me to say that our sales were not affected, but the company's unique sales offer has helped us to maintain strong sales momentum." Alex Fisher, managing director of 3663, agrees: "When ViVAS was brought to life so to speak, we knew that we could help customers in a way that competitors would struggle to emulate. Bibendum brings a wealth of wine knowledge and sourcing expertise to the table while 3663's unparalleled distribution network makes it possible for every single customer to benefit. "We are able to consolidate food and wine deliveries which reduces hassle for customers while offering them a comprehensive wine range that incorporates producer from boutique wineries as well as great quality brands. The relationship is a successful one and we've seen non-traditional avenues of business open due to our partnership. "The existing 3663 distribution network has made it possible for us to service low-volume customers that wouldn't be economically viable to other competitors due to the high cost of small deliveries to a fragmented market. Our trucks are already delivering food to these outlets, so adding wine to the orders is an obvious addition for these customers." Michael continues: "As Alex mentioned, we've seen some unexpected new business gains. The healthcare sector in particular has embraced what ViVAS has to offer and we are pleased with the sales that this area of the business has delivered. They have tapped into the wine expertise to create unique wine propositions that meet their customers' needs and the consolidated delivery system has significantly simplified ordering and stock management. "In the year ahead, trading conditions are going to remain tough and we are prepared," concludes Michael. "We will continue to expand the wine range on offer. Bibendum's experience and relationships with suppliers around the world allows us to source and create bespoke wines for ViVAS that meet consumers' changing needs. We are able to forecast trends to ensure that customers can capitalise on opportunities to drive revenue through wine sales."
