Vic Laws 'surprised and delighted' by award of MBE

11th Jan 2012 - 00:00
Abstract
Veteran industry consultant and administrator Vic Laws has been awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List ‘for services to the UK hospitality sector’.
Laws said: "I was both surprised and delighted to get the award." Among many areas of involvement in hospitality, in recent years he has volunteered his time to help train prisoners and publicise the work of the ground-breaking Clink Restaurant project at HMP High Down in Surrey. It is the only commercial restaurant set inside a prison to train inmates to help them get a career in hospitality when they leave. In 2011 he was appointed a 'restaurant ambassador' for The Clink. After working in hotels and contract catering, he set up his own consultancy 25 years ago and has added to that a number of key roles with industry organisations. These include being an administrator with LACA, Conseiller Culinaire at La Chaine des Rotisseurs, an administrator at the Association of Catering Excellence (ACE), and an administrator for the UK & Ireland branch of the Foodservice Consultants Society International (FCSI).
