Vacherin wins second 'Green Gong' at the 2010/11 Sustainable City Awards

Specialist London catering company, Vacherin, has been awarded a 'Green Gong' for Environmental Management in SME's at the 2010/11 Sustainable City Awards.
Commercial director, Phil Roker, says: "Over the last few years we have been working hard to make sustainability part of the fabric of Vacherin and this award proves that we have finally achieved our aim. We have a comprehensive sustainability programme including a sustainable fish policy, a cycle to work scheme, red meat free days, environmentally friendly suppliers and a packaging reduction programme. It feels fantastic to gain recognition for our hard work and dedication and also to show our clients that we are at the forefront of sustainability and that using us helps them to achieve their own environmental goals." Vacherin's submission showcased the company's commitment to sustainability through staff training and awareness, including the 'Golden Rules' of best sustainable practice which are displayed in all kitchens and catering areas and the 'Vacherin Green Cards' highlighting sustainability successes. Simon Mills, Head of Sustainable Development at the City of London Corporation comments, "Despite these being hard times for businesses, we have seen unprecedented numbers coming forward for recognition in this years awards. Vacherin were commended for proving that environmental performance and business growth can go hand in hand – continuing to grow, while investing in staff training and engagement, supply chain and environmental management." The award was presented to Vacherin Commercial Director, Phil Roker and Operations Manager, Zoe Moulson, by Lord Smith of Finsbury, Chairman of the Environment Agency. Vacherin was also runner up in the 2011 Sustainable Food category, which they previously won at the 2009/10 Sustainable City awards. The Sustainable City Awards, which are now in their tenth year, recognises and rewards UK organisations, from multinational businesses to small charities, and promotes outstanding achievements and innovation across all aspects of sustainabilty.
