Abstract
Entries for the inaugural UK Rising Star Hotel Chef of the Year competition are now being accepted until 31 January, to allow for more time after the festive period.

Open to hotel chefs aged 18-30 across the UK, the contest aims to spotlight the “extraordinary talent” of hotel chefs and encourage them to “step out of their comfort zone (and) challenge themselves.”

An esteemed panel of judges, including Michelin starred chef Simon Hulstone and Asma Khan of Darjeeling Express (London), will put entrants’ skills to the test with particular focus on taste, presentation and plating.

Chairman of co-organiser the Food and Beverage Manager Association (FBMA), Roy Sommer, said: “The FBMA is always looking to encourage and recognise the extraordinary talent of hotel chefs, particularly those whose star is on the ascent.

“This competition is a fantastic opportunity for young chefs, not only in London but across the country, to step out of their comfort zone, challenge themselves and potentially be judged by some of the UK’s finest chefs.

“We know the standard of hotels in this country is up there with the best in the world, in no small part because of their kitchens and restaurants, so we’re expecting big things from our finalists.”

Five finalists will go head-to-head in the live final (London, 5 March), with the winner to take home £2,500 worth of Steelite products for their establishment as well as three-night trip to New York for two, including attendance to StarChefs International Chefs Congress and a culinary tour.
