Abstract
The UK coffee industry is making an attempt to curb plastic waste. Boston Tea Party is set to become the UK’s first coffee chain to ban single-use drinks cups.
It will be interesting to see if other major coffee outlets will follow suit.
Chains including Starbucks, Costa Coffee and Caffè Nero have introduced schemes to encourage customers to reuse cups.
Earlier this month, high street chain Pret a Manger set to work on its plastic bottle deposit scheme, having partnered with UK start-up Chilly’s to create its new range of reusable bottles.
Sam Roberts, owner and manager director of Boston Tea Party, said: “Lots of coffee chains are making pledges about how they plan to tackle cup waste in the future. But theirs is a future which is too far away."
