Abstract
The age-old question for students leaving full time education of how to make those first steps onto the career ladder has been made easier for students of a Summer School initiative launched by famous London eatery Simpson's In The Strand, which celebrated its graduation alongside Springboard recently.
The Summer School is a programme of training and work experience in the hospitality, leisure and tourism industry. Simpsons in the Strand, which is famous for its fine British menu, are behind the 'Summer School' initiative, which is an annual programme of training and work experience aimed at young people leaving full-time education and not sure about their next steps onto the career ladder. And Springboard UK provides a helping hand by giving students the opportunity to taste what the hospitality industry is like as a career in real life. One of this year's participants, Ellen Whatmore, who has moved on to become events operations executive at Springboard UK and the The Springboard Charity, said: "Springboard has really given me the confidence and determination to succeed in my life. "I have learnt so much during my experience, working at the O2 with Compass, everyday was different. I will definitely apply what I have learnt to my future." Success stories of the night included Shanice Parris. who secured employment at a three Michelin star restaurant in The Dorchester as a comis chef. Dee Smith, head of youth programmes at Springboard said: "This is another fantastic evening which celebrates the achievements of the Summer School students. "It's great to see so many families, friends, lecturers and employers here supporting the Summer School students. We wish the students all the success in the future."
