Abstract
Both the 'Chefs on the Run' team, led by renowned chef Michel Roux Jr, and the 'London Pride' team competed in this year's Flora London Marathon – with both teams completing the 26.2 mile run in less than four hours.
The two teams battled through the rain, sleet and sunshine, with 'Chefs on the Run' finishing with an average time of 3 hours 36 minutes, and The Fuller's team crossing the line by just 11 minutes after – 3 hours 47 minutes. Michel Roux Jr commented: "I always enjoy the Flora London Marathon – the crowds are excellent – and as this was my 10th, I was delighted to get my personal time under 3 hours 30 minutes and not only beat the brewers but also another well known chef." Andy Bowen, team leader for Fuller's, added: "It's only the second year of London's Pride's official beer status so I'm sure we can get better in time for next year – perhaps we need to revisit our training regime – and find two pubs that are further apart to use as the start and finish for our training runs." The 'Chef's on the Run' team's times included Shane O'Conner, development chef at Unilever Foodsolutions, who's time was a staggering 3 hours 10 minutes, Robert Clayton, executive chef at Merchant Inns who ran in 3 hours 56 minutes, and Christophe Gueraud, former head chef of Michelin starred restaurant L'Escargot, who also ran it in 3 hours 56 minutes.
