Setting himself to raise £50,000 for CureLeukeamia, he has already nearly reached the target ahead of the July 4-26 event.
“I am having one last push, having raised just over £47.5k so far. I’m now looking for a handful of sponsors to help reach my target,” he said.
Groves, who was National Chef of the Year 2013, will be part of a 20-strong team put together by former-footballer and cancer survivor Geoff Thomas. Between them the group hopes to raise more than £1m for leukaemia cancer research.
The group will ride the 3,344km route in its entirety in July, starting one day in advance of the race.
“I love a challenge and this one is huge. I was inspired by road racing following the Epic 1989 Tour de France, which I followed and stayed closely in touch with cycling ever since.
“I am no stranger to a charity challenge, but this is my ultimate to date, a real bucket list one. We all have friends, family and colleagues that have been effected by cancer, with every penny you donate going direct to the charity, I know that through each pedal stroke in training I am helping to make a difference.”
