Abstract
Too Good To Go, the world’s largest surplus food app, has saved a landmark ten million ‘Magic Bags’ of surplus food from going to waste in the UK.

With each Magic Bag containing approximately 1kg of food, this adds up to 10,000 tonnes of food that has been diverted from ending up in landfill unnecessarily. Food waste causes more greenhouse gas emissions than the aviation industry, plastics and deforestation combined.

To date, Too Good To Go’s users and partners have saved 25,000 of C02e emissions through the redistribution of food that would have otherwise gone to waste. That’s equivalent to the yearly emissions of 2,941 average UK citizens.

Too Good To Go lets people buy surplus food and drink from hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, pubs and producers to stop it from going to waste. Consumers simply download the free Too Good To Go app and search for nearby businesses with unsold produce. They then purchase a ‘Magic Bag’, collect it at an allotted time and enjoy it.

Jamie Crummie, co-founder of Too Good To Go, said: “It’s amazing to have hit this incredible milestone of ten million 'Magic Bags' saved in the UK. Each and every one of our users and partner businesses have contributed to this achievement and I want to say a huge thank you to them.

“Saving food from going to waste is one of the most important steps we can take to combat climate change and this milestone goes to show that individual small changes really can add up to have a huge impact. Here’s to the next ten million!”
