Abstract
Theatres have become the latest venues to respond to consumer demand for a responsible dining experience as HQ Theatres and Hospitality has become the first theatre group to join the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA).

The group, which operates 13 sites across England including two restaurants not attached to theatres, will complete the SRA’s Sustainability Rating.

Simon Finnigan, General Manager of the Tanglewood restaurant in York, said: “Our cafes and restaurants are a key part of the group and it is really important to us that we manage them as responsibly as we possibly can. That includes everything – from the provenance of the food we’re serving our customers to how we manage our environmental footprint and how we engage with the communities local to all our venues. We know it matters to our customers and we’re excited about learning and improving with the help of the SRA.”

Mark Linehan, managing director of the SRA, added: “Three years on from our launch when our membership comprised conventional restaurants almost exclusively, we are now working with operators serving food in almost every conceivable venue. Just as consumer understanding of and attitudes to sustainability have evolved and become more sophisticated so operators are responding; which is great news for diners, businesses and the environment.”

The SRA provides advice and support to help improve the sustainability of the catering operations in sports stadia, museums, an airline and a train operator, as well as conventional restaurants, cafes, pubs, takeaways and hotels.
