Abstract
Talkington Bates has won a catering contract for a sheltered housing site in South Wales.

The independent contract caterer is to take over responsibility for Aneurin Bevan Court in Newport and will provide residents with lunch initially although that service may be expanded to include afternoon tea at a later date.

The agreement was successful in a competitive tender against several other contract caterers.

Sarah Burt, sheltered housing manager, Newport City Homes, which operates the site, said: “Talkington Bates demonstrated to us that it puts residents first and is prepared to go the extra mile.We felt that they offer a tailor-made solution for the needs of our site.”

Fiona Hopkinson, managing director, Talkington Bates Midlands, stepped in at the last minute to cook for the residents and visitors from Newport – following an accident in the kitchen where the Chef Manager ended up with 13 stitches in his hand.

Hopkinson said: “We pride ourselves on our level of service and staff commitment so I was more than happy to help out with the cookingon this occasion! Flexibility is absolutely essential in extra care catering as well as expert empathy to dietary requirements from diabetic, low cholesterol and low salt diets to ethnic origin and cultural food needs.

“Aneurin Bevan Court is a great site and its location in South Wales extends our presence further along the M4 corridor. It is the second major care business win for us this year followingan agreement with Retail Trust which operates sheltered housing and extra care services in London, Derby and Manchester.”
