This year it is called the Student Street Food Brunch Challenge 2014, and will be giving competitors the task of creating a dish using Tabasco sauce for four persons in 90 minutes, which is suitable for serving from 11am-4pm as a brunch item from a street vendors’ stall or vehicle.
Recipes may come from any global influences but the judges will be looking for flavour, ease of service in a street food environment, and the creative use of Tabasco sauce in the recipe from a choice of original red, green jalapeno, chipotle and habanero.
Top prize for the winning chef is a fabulous trip to the home of Tabasco – Avery Island in Lafayette, Louisiana – to experience the region’s cuisine and culture.
Craft Guild vice president Steve Munkley said: “I am pleased to announce that the Craft Guild of Chefs has been asked to host the very successful Tabasco Student Street Food Challenge competition for the third year running.
“Last year saw a bumper year for entries and this year we are expecting even more, so don’t delay in downloading the entry form for your creative your dish.”
The competition is open to students of any age in full or part time education and they do not need to be a Craft Guild member. Closing date for entries is October 6 2014.
Chefs short-listed from the paper entries will be invited to a cook-off at the University of West London on November 4.
• Entries should be sent to the Craft Guild of Chefs or emailed to craftguild@btconnect.com
