Around 6.3 million bottles of wine were produced in England and Wales last year with the market being made up from 66% sparkling white, 24% still white and 10% red/rose.
Overall, there are 135 wineries and 470 vineyards in the UK, with the majority of vineyards in the South; there are 140 vineyards in the South West and 160 in the South East alone.
Tom Lowes of Sykes Cottages, said: “Good food and drink remain high on the list of priorities for our customers. Provenance is becoming ever more important and people want local wine to go with their local food.
“Given that the majority of vineyards are in the South West and South East, these areas are likely to benefit the most from the growing interest in British wine.”
