Susan Owen Jones wins Welsh Region SCoTY final

The Wales Region heat of LACA’s 2013 School Chef of the Year (SCoTY) competition took place at Deeside College on February 12th, with Susan Owen Jones triumphing to claim a place in the final.

Susan, who works for Ceredigion County Council at Ysgol Y Dderi Primary School, served up Moroccan Chicken Tagine with Vegetable Cous Cous, Cucumber and Mint Salad, Hummus and Spinach Flatbread followed by Orange Cake with Mixed Berries and Orange Cream.

Karen Chilcott, who works for Catering Services at Tref-Y-Rhyg Primary School for Rhondda-Cynon-Taf CBC, won the Highly Commended Main Course award for her Welsh Chicken with Dewi Sauce Served with Stir Fry Vegetables.

Jack Thomas, who works for Wrexham Scvhool Meals service at Ysgol Morgan llwyd Secondary School on behalf of Wrexham County Council, won the Highly Commended Dessert award for his Applejack Tart (an apple dessert with a crunchy flapjack topping with a caramel and coconut sauce).

The SCoTY 2013 final will take place on May 22nd at the Defence Services School, Worthy Down in Hampshire. The competition is sponsored by Maggi from Nestlé Professional.
