Survey reveals 89% of Brits say ‘picky tea’ is their go-to summer meal
Abstract
According to research from cider makers Orchard Pig, Brits tuck into an average of three picky teas a week during the warmer months, with sausage rolls (52%), a slice of mature cheddar (52%) and pork pies (43%) emerging as picky plate essentials.

More than four in ten (43%) say that it’s not a picky tea without potato salad or coleslaw, while 42% love to include a handful of juicy cherry tomatoes.

Scotch eggs have a place on a picky plate (42%), as do ready salted crisps (42%) and coronation chicken (21%), alongside sourdough bread (23%), smoked salmon (23%), olives (23%) and mozzarella (23%).

The majority (86%) of those surveyed said it doesn’t get more quintessentially British than picky tea. People in Cardiff (96%), Bristol (94%) and Manchester (93%) are the nation’s biggest picky tea fans.

Eleanor Quigley, brand manager at Orchard Pig, said: “It’s clear to see that ‘picky tea fever’ is sweeping the nation, with everything from smoked salmon to sourdough emerging as favourites. Crafted with more apples and less fizz, our choice of ciders match with everything, from sausage rolls to grapes and cheese.”
