Survey finds 81% of Veganuary participants report ‘significant’ diet change
Abstract
Veganuary, the global organisation encouraging people to try vegan in January and beyond, has released the results from its six-month follow-up survey.

The results show that most respondents (81%) have maintained a ‘dramatic reduction’ in their animal product consumption. Nearly two-thirds (65%) of the Veganuary participants who have continued to eat a fully vegan diet for the past six months have experienced health improvements.

The health improvements include increased energy (59%), improved mood (57%), better skin (54%) and a desired change in body weight (48%). The survey also found:

  • 27% are still eating a fully vegan diet
  • 37% are eating at least 75% less meat and other animal products than pre-Veganuary
  • 17% are eating at least 50% less meat and other animal products than pre-Veganuary
  • 95% of those who are not fully vegan said they’re likely to try a vegan diet again in the future

Toni Vernelli, Veganuary International’s head of communications, said: “These incredible results show that Veganuary is so much more than a one-month pledge and that taking part leads to lasting diet change for most people. It’s clear that Veganuary is driving positive change for animals, people and the planet.

“The fact that 70% of participants feel more inspired in the kitchen is no surprise, as most people discover new recipes and ingredients when eating a plant-based diet. Nearly two-thirds of participants who stick with a plant-based diet feel health benefits as well. There are so many reasons to take part in Veganuary.”

The survey was sent by Veganuary to 277,000 of the people who received our 31 daily emails during the 2024 campaign (5,931 people responded).
