The summer workshops, one of four per year to coincide with the seasons, will take place over the coming months at five of the UK primary and secondary schools taking part in this year’s initiative, which have already got so much out of the winter and spring sessions.
The session will give the child-parent teams the chance to make some summery dishes using seasonal ingredients ranging from apricots and greengages to crab and scallops.
This year’s summer workshop dates are:
South Bromsgrove High, Worcestershire – June 12
Oasis Academy John Williams, Bristol – June 17
Blossomfield Infant, Solihull – July 2
Lincoln Gardens Primary, Lincolnshire – July 2
Chaseside Primary, Enfield – July 10
The workshops are designed to teach families how to prepare food that is time-saving, cost-effective and nutritionally-balanced, while showing them just how much fun can be had from cooking as a family. They also learn how to reduce food waste at home.
The workshops begin with a look at a ‘market stall’ of seasonal fruit and veg before moving on to the ‘mini masterchef-style’ cooking session to create a main dish and a dessert.
