Abstract
With Fresher’s Week over for another year, the UK’s newest Uni recruits have managed to chomp their way through a whopping 5 million slices of pizza and 840,000 kebabs, leaving more than one million empty pint glasses in their wake.
Fresher's Week, the first week of the academic year at Universities across the UK is renowned for being a week of students letting their hair down without their parents around. Just-Eat.co.uk, an online takeaway ordering site, noticed a huge rise in takeaway orders from student halls and decided to take a closer look. Based on averages from surveying 1,628 students, Just-Eat found: Pizza – the average student ate 12 slices of pizza this Fresher's Week, totalling 5,035,524 slices of pizza. Kebabs – the study showed that the average new student ate two kebabs last week, or 839,254 kebabs in total. Pints – taking just the male Fresher population, an average of six pints a night throughout Fresher's Week means a grand total of 1,258,881 pints were drunk across university cities last week alone. Spirits – the average female Fresher's student downed 34 measures of spirits last week, meaning that females alone drank 7,133,659 spirit measures. Shots – 14 shots were drunk per person on average last week, or 5,874,778 slammers
