Abstract
Stockport Council has committed to providing Stockport children living in low income families with a paid for lunch for the 2023/24 academic year from September.

This will see around 3,000 additional children in the borough receive a paid for hot meal whilst attending school or college. Designed to support residents during the cost of living crisis, the scheme extends the offer of a paid for lunch to low-income families who are not eligible for free school meal (FSM) support.

Councillor Jilly Julian, Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources at Stockport Council, commented: “I’m so proud to be launching this scheme to help support our residents during the ongoing cost of living crisis.

“The scheme means that every Stockport child living in a low-income family will have the opportunity to receive a free meal every school day for the next academic year, regardless of whether they go to school or college within our borough or not. This is a huge programme for our borough and I’m proud to be a part of a council making this possible.

“We know how important it is that our children and young people enjoy a daily hot meal in order to reach their full potential. This programme will make a real difference to the lives of children within Stockport.”

The Council will be working closely with schools and colleges as trusted partners to deliver the scheme.
