Steelite's new crockery at Gloucestershire hospitals
Abstract
Tableware manufacturer Steelite International has been awarded a new contract to supply crockery to Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Steelite’s Simplicity Rio range of tableware will be used in the County’s Cheltenham General and Gloucestershire Royal Hospitals. The range was selected as part of a joint-commitment by the Trust’s clinical and catering team to improve patient care.

The crockery has been chosen because of its design and colour and will be used for patients with dementia, alerted cognition or visual impairment.

Tests carried out with patients showed the Rio design on the plates and mugs makes food more visible and enhances food presentation, encouraging a healthier appetite. The coloured border on the plate, as well of the use of a colour rim on the mug, helps visibly define the edge and provides a contrast against the served food.

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Bridget Campbell, patient meals catering manager said: “The selection of the crockery follows the rigorous testing, evaluation, and feedback from staff on use of the crockery.”

Gregory Fowke, national account manager, Steelite International added: “We are delighted to be chosen to provide the tableware for the Trust and especially as we find the design will actually encourage patients to eat and aid their recovery and wellbeing.  All of our products are of high quality, with a long life span and offer very good value for money, very important for clients like the Trust who must be cost efficient.”
