The feat, which was undertaken to highlight the new range of Burco Manual and Auto Fill boilers, saw a team of 12 employees make a massive 1608 cups of tea in just one hour, to break the previous record, held by Devonshire tea, by 883 cups.
The team used a total of nine British-manufactured Burco manual fill boilers across three serving stations to make three different varieties of Taylors of Harrogate tea (Yorkshire Tea, Afternoon Darjeeling & Irish Breakfast).
Each of the teas had to be made using water prepared to Taylors’ recommended brewing temperature and each had to be allowed to brew for the designated time. Once brewed, the teas were then poured into 5oz Specialty cups supplied by disposables company, Huhtamaki.
The cups of tea were then sold to runners of the Hotelympia 10k for a suggested donation of 50p, which meant that Glen Dimplex were able to present industry charity Springboard with a cheque in excess of £300.
The Glen Dimplex team that are now Official Guinness World Records Holders were Jon Usher, Sheela Harper, Gayle Kelly, Nicola Horsfield, Diane Ho, Paul Roberts, Steven Lilley, Cheryl Henrys Dean, Carolyn Holland, Dave Huby, Neil Martin and Suzanne Travis.
Jon Usher, head of UK sales and marketing is delighted by the triumph: “A Guinness World Records title is like a holy grail and therefore it is a significant achievement for both Burco and Glen Dimplex Professional Appliances to be able to call ourselves Guinness World Record Holders. In some ways, we were in a prime position to challenge for the title, as we have immediate access to some of the most reliable and consistent boilers in the industry, which played a major part in the attempt.”
