Abstract
Food and drink travel operator SSP Group has signed an eight-year contract with Spanish airports Barcelona and Madrid, said to be worth £180 million (€200m).

The move will see the company enter Madrid Barajas Airport for the first time, while expanding its existing partnership from two to seven units at Barcelona-El Prat Airport.

The former will include healthy food concept, Mama Campo, which will offer a selection of organic dishes, fresh fruit and cold pressed juices when it opens this month (December).

Barcelona will meanwhile benefit from five additional outlets, including fine dining restaurant, Alas, and a grab-and-go unit, Slam, from Michelin star chefs Javier and Sergio Torres; Spanish charcuterie from Enrique Tomás; local concept Cooofebar; Spanish restaurant La Tramoia; and sandwich company Pannus.

Blanca Ripoll, managing director of SSP Spain, said: “(SSP) is delighted to introduce customers travelling through Madrid and Barcelona to this outstanding range of food and beverage brands.

“The mix we are offering is based on our detailed knowledge of the travelling consumer in Spain, coupled with our understanding of regional trends. These latest wins will allow (SSP) to develop and strengthen our highly successful business in Spain.”
