Abstract
SSP, the food travel operator, has secured deals with two Australian airports in the last month valued at almost £100 million.

The operator secured a £40 million ($90 million AUD) to operate three outlets in Brisbane airport yesterday and also secured a £32 million deal ($68 million AUD) to open three new outlets at Sydney airport.

SSP will open pan-Asian eatery Chop Chop Chang’s, American burger brand Carls’ Jr., and SSP’s bespoke concept The Marketplace in Brisbane airport. The Marketplace is scheduled to open in October 2015, and Chop Chop Chang’s and Carl’s Jr. will beging trading in mid-2016.

The three new outlets in Brisbane airport will take the total number of units operated by SSP in the airport to six.

Chris Rayner, CEO of SSP Asia Pacific, said: “We have been working with Brisbane Airport for some time to understand how to deliver their vision. Our extensive research into the local market has enabled us to create an offer that encapsulates the true character of Brisbane and will help the airport to achieve its aspirations.

“By mixing the familiar in Chop Chop Chang’s, Roll’d, Pie Face and Fonzie Abbott, with the new in Carl’s Jr, and the tailored in The Marketplace, we have a selection of concepts that will add real excitement to the terminal.”

Meanwhile, in Sydney airport’s T2, SSP will open Chur Burger, the concept from Australian chef Warren Turnbull, Vietnamese-inspired street food concept Roll’d and Asian food brand Hokka Hokka. All three concepts are scheduled to open at the end of the year.

The latest deal at Sydney airport follows a £21 million contract to open four new concepts at Sydney airport’s T1 earlier this year.

Rayner added: “We are delighted to be part of Sydney Airport’s exciting transformation. Sydney Airport’s T2 is the busiest terminal in Australia and we are thrilled that our concepts have been chosen for the highly coveted tenancies in the casual dining precinct.

“We are looking forward to working in partnership with an excellent portfolio of brands. This latest win has underscored SSP’s position as a major presence in Australasia.”
