Abstract
UK-based food and drink travel operator, SSP Group, is to take over the running of 29 Starbucks stores across Netherlands railway stations.

The news comes as current operator Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) has announced plans to stop directly operating some of its food and beverage and retail units at railway stations across the country, ‘as part of its new strategy.’

A ‘competitive’ tender saw SSP awarded the contract, which they will run in licensed partnership with NS as of January next year, and all current employees will also transfer to the company.

SSP chief executive Kate Swann said: “(SSP Group) is  delighted to have been selected by NS, as this award recognises our successful track record of running Starbucks stores in travel locations in the UK and Continental Europe.

“We look forward to further growing our operations in the Netherlands and welcoming NS colleagues into our team.”

Commercial director for NS, Sytze van der Aa, added, "We have every confidence in SSP’s ability to successfully operate our Starbucks stores given its expertise as a global operator of brands in high footfall travel locations.

“SSP’s experience combined with our in-depth knowledge of the Dutch railway network, gives us confidence in a bright future for our Starbucks colleagues and customers.”
