‘Perfectly timed’ to coincide with many of the country’s ‘most popular’ fruit and vegetables coming into season, the Soil Association claims: “The more people buying organic food means more organic farms.
“More organic farms means fewer pesticides, more wildlife and more animals raised under the highest standards.”
Among its top five reasons to get involved, it adds:
- Fewer Pesticides
- No artificial colours & preservatives
- Always free range
- No routine use of antibiotics
- No GM ingredients
With a number of events and supported activity taking place across the country, organic sales increased to 7.1% in September 2017 – up 2.9% from 4.2% January-August.
This year’s highlights include:
- 8-9 September - Go! Organic Festival, Battersea Park (London)
- 15 September - Organic September Saturday, a dedicated day of organic in the independent retailers
- 22 September - Daylesford Harvest Festival
- 23 September - Organic “Open Gate” Sunday
Clare McDermott from the Association commented: “Small changes can make a huge difference.
“Choosing organic means helping protect our vital wildlife and reducing your exposure to potentially harmful pesticides and chemicals.
“Demand for more organic food means more organic farms. More organic farms mean more wildlife and more animals raised to the highest welfare standards.”
