Abstract
Newcastle United Football Club fans have become the first in the country to benefit from an innovative app introduced by contract caterer Sodexo Prestige that allows them to have refreshments delivered to their seat during a game.

And for a number of ticket holders using the VenueMenu app has had an added bonus – thanks to a free draw which has seen them win a range of prizes.

“We are delighted that we are the first stadium in the UK to use VenueMenu,” said Chris Reed, retail catering manager for Sodexo Prestige.

“It has certainly been very popular with the fans here at St James’s.”

VenueMenu has been operating in North America for a number of years and is now planning to grow the scheme across the UK.

The company has been working closely with Sodexo, which operates the catering at St James’s Park, and has trialled the scheme with great success during the current season.

Users download the free app on to their smartphone or access it via their browser and then register, allowing them to pre-order food and drink from 24 hours before a match up until half time.

These are then delivered to their seat during the game, having already been pre-paid for.

The app, which has also been running in Nine Bar at the club and in the Sports Bar, has proved a huge hit, with the added bonus of everyone who has signed up being able to take part in a free draw.

The first winner was Magpies fan Claire Giles, who won a football signed by the team.

“I’ve been using VenueMenu since it was available at St James’ Park,” she said.

“I love the fact that I can order in advance or during the first half and not have to worry about joining long lines.”

Other prizes on offer are hospitality match tickets, rounds of golf and standard tickets.
