Abstract
Sodexo, a leading provider of on-site service solutions, has launched its first Student Survival Guide App, which is available now to download for iPhones and androids.
The App, endorsed by celebrity chef Paul Rankin, is designed to help students prepare for university life away from home and is easily accessible. There are four main options covering healthy eating; recipes; top tips; and useful information.
The App designed by the foodservices and facilities management provider includes easy-to-cook recipes such as sticky ginger chicken and banana cake, as well as handy and helpful tips on how to eat the recommended 5-a-day on a student budget. Other aspects include a weight conversion table for ounces, grams, and pounds to make it even easier to start cooking delicious meals.
Important and useful information such as contact details for student unions, travel information, basic first aid, and healthy lifestyle tips such drinking alcohol in moderation, consuming fats, and even washing tips are also provided.
Charlotte Parriss, marketing manager, along with her colleagues from Sodexo's marketing team came up with the design and content for the App with students in mind. Parriss said: "Living alone for the first time can be quite a challenging and daunting experience. The App has been specifically designed to provide a helping hand to new students, to help them prepare and settle into university life. "Having gone to university myself, I understand how important it is to learn basic skills such cooking and first aid, so this App would have been a great help during my time at university, especially as it is so accessible and simple to use." Colm O'Mahony, divisional director for Sodexo Education, added: "We focus heavily on listening to the student voice and helping students with their day-to-day living, whether that's through value and promotions in our offers or providing advice on nutrition and wellbeing. "I am delighted with our latest App, and am looking forward to seeing how it evolves. We are particularly looking forward to the feedback from students across our university client base, which will help us drive continuous improvement."
