The programme will start in November 2012 at Cawdor Barracks, Brawdy, near Haverfordwest and will be delivered jointly by the Prince’s Trust, Wales, Sodexo Defence, who provide support services at military locations throughout Wales, and food production firm Tillery Valley, part of Sodexo.
The Prince’s Trust has invited 15 young people, who are currently unemployed to attend the ‘Get into Hospitality’ programme to develop a range of employability skills and gain hands on work experience relevant to the hospitality industry.
The first week will concentrate on teaching young people about food hygiene, health and safety, and customer care.
Young people will also learn about the importance of the Spirit of Inclusion, a programme created by Sodexo, which looks at diversity and inclusion from an individual, team and business perspective.
In the second week, young people will be given an opportunity to gain real work experience in a live environment through working in the various Sodexo roles at the Barracks, including catering, customer service and general facilities management.
At the end of the programme, all successful participants will receive a certificate during a presentation ceremony, rewarding their commitment to learning and developing. Parents and guardians will be invited to attend the buffet style ceremony where they will be able to taste food created and prepared by the participants.
Rick Libbey, director of The Prince’s Trust Cymru, said: “We run the ‘Get into Hospitality’ programme in partnership with employers, to give young people who are work-ready a helping hand by giving them a mix of vocational skills, practical training and hands-on experience, then supporting them as they look for work.”
