Sodexo feeds Royal Wedding troops

9th May 2011 - 00:00
Abstract
Whilst all eyes were on the Royal Wedding last week, Sodexo, a leading provider of on-site service solutions, worked to ensure that all the troops on duty were fed and watered as they guarded one of London's Westminster Abbey.
Sodexo Defence supported the event by feeding 1,700 troops at Wellington Barracks before they lined the streets of London in preparation for the day. The Sodexo team also handed out packed lunches and set up retail areas for the troops as they returned from duty. At Hyde Park Barracks, Sodexo fed 360 troops before they paraded on horseback and provided the unit with laundry services, boot repairs, horse laundry and equine waste services. Sodexo's involvement extended to the Royal Guardrooms at both Buckingham Palace and St James's Palace where meals were provided to the soldiers on duty for the Royal Wedding Day, including The Queen's Life Guards. In addition, Sodexo teams provided the food for a number of Royal Wedding parties across the capital, including a street party at the Woolwich Barracks for families of the soldiers who were also on duty for the wedding. Sodexo provides services at 69 Ministry of Defence locations in London and Windsor including nine major catering, retail and leisure sites as part of the Capital Multi Activity Contract. Sites include Wellington Barracks, Hyde Park Barracks, the Royal Guardrooms and the Royal College of Defence Studies. Alan Staples, Sodexo Defence contract director, said: "It was fantastic for us to be involved in an incredibly high profile event. Although it was additional work for the teams, they worked hard to provide the troops with the very best service. For us, it was all about making the soldiers' day as easy as possible by providing them with easily accessible food, drinks and other services."
