17th Aug 2010 - 00:00
Abstract
Sodexo employees at Queen's Hospital have picked up two awards at the Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospital NHS Trust's annual Outstanding Achievement Awards.
George Chennells, who works as a porter in the accident and emergency department, was named 'Employee of the Year' at the awards ceremony that recently took place at Queen's Hospital in Romford. Chennells, who has worked for Sodexo for five years, was nominated for the award as he was one of 12 employees who were recognised as employee of the month over the last year. His commitment to the job was recognised by 24 members of the A&E team who nominated him for his hard work and devotion to duty. No other employee has ever been nominated by so many people. Sodexo's security team at the hospital was also recognised by the Trust with the 'Unsung Hero' award. The team was praised for its expertise in dealing with front line confrontation and difficult situations and how each security officer has built a strong reputation for being approachable and helpful at all times. Jenny McDowell, Sodexo facilities management manager at the hospital, said: "We are absolutely delighted that our employees have been recognised for their hard work. Sodexo is committed to providing an excellent service to the Trust and this is further evidence of how a collaborative approach to service provision can bring success to all parties." A Trust spokesperson added: "We are delighted that Sodexo employees are part of the team here at the Trust. George and the security team have demonstrated fantastic service at our hospitals, and it's nice to thank them in this way."
