Sodexo chosen to provide school meals at King’s Park Primary School

17th Nov 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
Sodexo has secured a contract with King’s Park Primary School in Melksham, Wiltshire.
The contract, which will commence in January 2010, will see Sodexo provide healthy, fresh and nutritional school meals to the 120 school pupils and the children who attend The Little Fir Tree Nursery which is also on site. All meals provided at the school and nursery will meet the Government's 14 key nutrient-based standards which were introduced in primary schools in September 2008. Menus will run on a three-week cycle to ensure that children are offered a varied and appealing choice of food, including a selection of fresh fruit, yoghurts and salad crudités on a daily basis. Sodexo will tailor its 'Club Joules' service offer to suit the school's individual needs. At King's Park Primary School, Club Joules will provide two different portion sizes for infants and juniors, as well as guaranteeing freshly prepared, nutritional meals that are cooked on site by Sodexo's catering staff. The school will also benefit from Sodexo's menu development working groups, made up of in-house chefs and dieticians, to devise tasty and varied menu choices that address the balance of providing nutritionally sound meals that are appealing to children. Sharon Gray, Sodexo catering contract manager for Wiltshire, said: "It is vital that children don't only eat healthy food but understand why it is good for them. That is why we aim to raise awareness through assemblies, home economics lessons and healthy open days so that pupils, teachers and parents can learn about the importance of healthy eating." Michael Keeling, headmaster at King's Park Primary School, said: "After looking at a range of school meal providers, we chose to select Sodexo due to their proven track record in providing children with healthy school meals. We are very much looking forward to working with them."
