22nd Apr 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
Sodexo has today announced the appointment of Wan Mak, registered dietitian, as head of nutrition and dietetics.
Mak, who has worked for Sodexo's Education division for three years, being responsible for ensuring the education business meets with government nutritional standards, will be in charge of health and well-being matters and for driving the company's healthwise philosophy across its business. She has extensive experience of working both in the UK and internationally, having held roles including chief catering development dietitan for Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust; programme director for nutrition and dietetics at the University of Hong Kong (SPACE), department manager for a 900 bedded acute general hospital and clinical dietitian at St James's University Hospital, NHS Trust. Her widespread work with government and non-government organisations in promoting health and well being will continue through into her new role. In addition, Mak has lectured in nutrition and dietetics at a number of leading universities in the UK and abroad and has been honorary secretary of the Hong Kong Dietitian's Association and treasurer of the North East branch of the British Dietetics Association. She will report to Claire Morris, marketing director (consumer insight and nutrition) and will be supported by two other dietitians. Most recently, Mak played a significant part in helping Sodexo deliver its commitments as official nutrition partner for the nationwide Year of Food and Farming campaign. She was presented with Sodexo's Corporate Citizenship employee of the year title last year for the support she provided to the Education team, which offered healthy eating advice and bread-making workshops to more than 500 schools across the UK to help pupils find out more about nutrition and where their food comes from. Mak said: 'I'm absolutely delighted to be taking on this new role. With nutrition becoming ever more important in our lives and our industry, there is no better or more exciting time to focus on the key issues of health and well-being across Sodexo's business segments." Morris added: "Wan is a very experienced dietitian whose knowledge and understanding of Sodexo's business will be invaluable to the team. I am looking forward to working alongside someone who has great dedication to educating people about the benefits of healthy eating and lifestyle."
