Shine’s target is to become carbon neutral through Scopes 1 and 2 by the year 2027, and work further with its supply chain to become net zero carbon including Scope 3 by 2030.
Julian Shine, managing director at Shine Catering Systems, said: “For Scope 1, we aim to achieve a 100% reduction in emissions of 58.5 tCO2e by 2027 from a baseline reporting year of 2022. This will mainly be achieved through changes to our vehicle fleet. Having already switched to hybrid vehicles within the company, we are aiming to take this a step further and move to a fully electric fleet by the end of 2027.
“As a business, we always strive to achieve a more positive environmental impact by investing in new technologies and innovation. We want to help our clients, past and future, achieve their goals of a lower carbon footprint and a more sustainable future within the catering industry.”
Shine Catering Systems has already installed a 50kw solar array which has reduced electric use by 30% and the company is a net generator of electricity in the summer months. Their cardboard and timber packaging does not go to landfill but is incinerated during the colder months to heat the shopfloor.
Scope 2 mainly focuses on energy and buildings, with the company targeting a 100% reduction in emissions of 19.8 tCO2e from 2022 to 2027. Shine is targeting a 100% reduction in current Scope 3 emissions of 345 tCO2e by 2030, including purchasing only green steel which is CO2 neutral.
