Under the terms of the deal it will deliver catering, retail, vending, hospitality services and summer school catering over the next five years, with scope to extend this period for a further two years.
It will mean Aramark will operate across London at five sites – Marylebone, Harrow, New Cavendish Street, Little Titchfield Street and Regent Street.
Tracey Smith, Aramark’s education business development said: “Investment by both the university and Aramark will see an extensive facilities refurbishment programme take place, including new café bars at three of the sites.
“Costa Coffee will be served across the sites while the food will have an international theme to meet the demands of the diverse cultures studying and working at the university.”
The deal sees the University of Westminster join Aramark’s portfolio of higher education clients which includes the Universities of London, Salford, Sunderland, Worcester and York St John.
Smith added: “We’ve won this business by listening to what the University of Westminster wanted and providing a bespoke response which will appeal to those currently at this wonderful university and prospective students considering where to study.
“We’re not just about feeding people. We recognise that we are a ‘shop window’ for the university, and by providing an expert service and listening to the needs of students we can help make the University of Westminster even more appealing and support its future growth.
“As well as improving the student experience we’ll be generating improved profitability for the university by growing its hospitality, event and summer school business, and have introduced a new position of hospitality and conference manager to focus on this side of the contract.
“We also look forward to employing students from the university, giving them an income as they progress with their studies.”
The University of Westminster has more than 20,000 students from over 150 nations. It was founded in 1838 as the country’s first polytechnic, gaining university status in 1992.
