Abstract
Specialist catering company Searcys is getting ready to take centre stage in Birmingham when it opens the Centenary Bar & Brasserie at The REP on Centenary Square in September.

The caterer is already the company behind some of the UK’s most iconic restaurants and bars including the Gherkin, St Pancras Grand and 30 Euston Square.

It will be adding to its repertoire when Birmingham Repertory theatre reaffirms its position as one of Birmingham’s most prominent attractions, following a two and a half year refurbishment.

Searcys was awarded the £13m contract following a highly competitive tender process late last year. The company will be providing all catering at the venue which will include the 90-cover restaurant, external terrace and onsite café and bars, as well as the dedicated conference and banqueting offer, over the next five years.

The kitchen will be overseen by Michelin starred chef Paul Welburn, formerly head chef at Gary Rhodes’ flagship restaurant in London.

The Brasserie, which overlooks Centenary Square, will open every day from 11am through to evening dining and late night snacks. It will serve a range of bistro-style dishes, including a specially priced £14 express menu with two courses, ideal for pre-theatre dining.

All menus use ingredients sourced from British artisan suppliers and diners can expect simple brasserie food with a modern take on traditional dishes.

The Café will offer a more relaxed affair serving an all-day range of coffees, sandwiches and cakes, well-priced wines, charcuterie boards and other bar snacks. Craft beers and classic cocktails are also available for after-work drinks and post-theatre night caps.

Searcys chief executive Doug Tetley said: “We are very excited to be a part of the fantastic redevelopment of the iconic Birmingham Repertory Theatre and to have a presence in the UK’s second city.

“The Centenary Brasserie has an incredible location in the heart of the City and we look forward to showcasing some fantastic local food producers.

“The theatre is well-known throughout Britain for its innovative and original programming. We hope to add to this iconic status by providing the highest quality gourmet food offering.”

Stuart Rogers, executive director at The REP said: “Searcys is known for its fantastic quality and service, so visitors to The REP can expect not only a wonderful new theatre but also a memorable dining experience.”
