Abstract
Industry body Seafish is offering financial support to the processing, foodservice and independent retail sectors to help promote the '2 a week' message during Seafood Fortnight – which kicks off from 5-21 September.
To benefit from this funding, applicants must describe how they will raise consumer awareness of the '2 a week' message, the health benefits of fish and shellfish, the diversity of seafood available and the importance of sustainability. Forms must be submitted by 5pm on 30 May and must clearly indicate the proposed budget breakdown against activities, as well as stating the amount of financial contribution being made by the applicant. The financial support application forms can be provided by Dawn Sneddon at d_sneddon@seafish.co.uk or by calling 0131 524 8641. Ben Bartlett, a foodservice consultant who is also part of the Seafood Fortnight steering group, explained how companies can benefit from this: "Businesses should make the most of any funding available, as it can be valuable in helping them stand out from competitors." He added: "The '2 a week' and healthy eating messages are becoming ever more important to consumers, so it's essential to maximise these and link them to the wonderful variety of seafood we have available in the UK." The grant applications will be assessed by a team behind Seafish and the seafood industry.
