8th Sep 2008 - 00:00
Abstract
Cornwall County Council has awarded a £4.5 million contract for providing school meals to Scolarest, part of the Compass Group UK & Ireland.
Under the five year contract, Scolarest will provide meals to 171 primary and secondary schools across Cornwall. Brian Higman, the County Council's executive member for corporate support, commented on the decision: "Scolarest has an impressive national reputation for providing high quality meals to nearly 2,500 state schools, colleges and universities across the country." Sandra Kerton, operational performance leader of Scolarest, added: "Our key focus will be to provide healthy, fresh, nutritional food which contributes to our customers' wellbeing." The County Council's key priorities in awarding the new contract were to improve the quality of school meals, address obesity levels in children, increase the numbers choosing school meals in line with Government targets, and to generate greater value for money.
