School meals price increase for Derbyshire

A primary school meals will cost £1.85 and dinners at secondary schools will be priced at £1.90. Prices are valid from the start of term in early September. A spokesman for Derbyshire County Council said the demand for school meals across the county is higher than the national average. "We work hard to provide tasty and nutritious meals at competitive prices. This is reflected by the number of children having school meals in Derbyshire, which is three per cent above the national average for both primary and secondary. "We're mindful of the impact of the recession and have carefully budgeted to keep our prices as low as possible while meeting rising costs such as increasing food prices. "Schools were alerted to a potential price increase of ten pence before the summer holiday via our intranet. We have managed to keep this down to a five pence rise for primary meals."
