12th May 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
Friends and colleagues have given a farewell to school cook Ann Walker who has retired after 19 years of service.
Walker has left the Borough's school catering service having been cook in charge at Jarrow School and previously at the former Hedworthfield Comprehensive School. The cook's hard work and contribution to the school meals service has not gone unnoticed. She was not only named South Tyneside's Employee of the Year in the Council's 2008 Big Thank You awards, but she was also one of the first school catering employees in the Borough to gain an NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation and Cooking. Councillor Jim Foreman, lead member for children and young people, said: "Ann is very helpful and well thought of by her friends and colleagues, past and present. She was an outstanding and dedicated cook at Jarrow School and was fully committed to providing fabulous food and a high quality of service to our children and young people."
