The Savoy Educational Trust rewards the future of UK hospitality

The college grants are worth £59,000 in total and will go towards the creation of new training programmes, facilities and buildings in Croydon, Leeds City and Darlington College. The Trust awarded £10,000 to Croydon College in October 2010 to help the Hospitality department set up a 'Young Chefs Academy', a grant of £25,000 was awarded to Darlington College to help redesign the existing restaurant training facility, and Leeds City College Thomas Danby Campus recently secured a grant worth £24,000 to refurbish the bistro area in the college and provide a facility that reflects a real working environment for training both back and front of house. In addition, the Trust awarded a grant of £15,000 to the AFWS to set up a press office to promote Michel Roux's Service. Margaret Georgiou, administrator and secretary to the Trustees, said: "At a time of huge cuts to university budgets, The Savoy Educational Trust grants and bursaries are even more crucial to development and training. We are delighted to contribute towards these projects since they will benefit a large and diverse group of young people, now and in the future." "The aim of the Trust is to support the advancement and development of education, training and qualifications within hospitality and fund initiatives which benefit the whole industry. The Trustees consider a wide range of applications and innovative and far-reaching projects, such as those in Croydon, Leeds and Darlington, as detailed below." Chief executive of the Savoy Educational Trust, Julia Sibley, added: "Michel Roux's Service did a wonderful job of presenting front of house service as a professional and credible career option. The social media campaign generated over 70% more visitors to the AFWS website, increasing awareness hugely."
