Abstract
A petition set up by a group of headteachers has gathered 54,748 signatures in support of its call to save universal infant free school meals since its launch last week.
Lead petitioner Tim Baker, headteacher at Charlton Manor Primary School in Greenwich, launched the petition in response to the Conservative Party’s manifesto pledge to end universal infant free school meals and replace it with a breakfast scheme.
The petition states that a policy change will damage children’s health, well-being, attainment and academic results.
