The ceremony was hosted by Michelin-starred chef, Theo Randall and saw 674 industry professionals gather and a total of 21 awards given out.
The sandwich bar sector has led the growth in the industry this year, growing 7.5% by volume in the last 12 months. Cafés and coffee shops have seen a 9.8% rise in value in the same period.
The convenience store sector saw volume down 7% but value up 5.4%, whilst the worst performing sector being the garage forecourts, with volume down 11.2% and value down 12.7%.
Waitrose, Marks & Spencer and Pret all scooped prizes in the New Sandwich of the Year Award. Pret’s Veggie Christmas Lunch won the promotional sandwich category, whilst Waitrose’s Love Life Calorie Controlled Turkey & Pastrami won the standard category.
EAT was named Specialist Sandwich Bar Chain of the Year, whilst Greggs was announced as the En-Route Sandwich Retailer of the Year.
Sodexo scored an award as the Workplace Sandwhich Provider of the Year, whilst Melton Foods was named the BSA Sandwhich Manufacturer of the Year.
In the products and equipments categories, Street Eats Dill Gherkin Mustard was named New Sandwich Ingredient, whilst Planglow’s Street Box/Deli Paper was named New Sandwich Equipment.
Mark Arnold, who has previously twice been the recipient of Sandwich Designer of the Year and now dedicates his time to judging for the association, was awarded with the British Sandwich Industry Award.
