Safer food pack provided for care homes

7th May 2008 - 00:00
Abstract
The Food Standards Agency has launched a Safer food, better business (SFBB) supplement designed to help small caterers and staff working in care homes across the UK to cook safer food for their residents.
Up to 19,000 care homes throughout Great Britain will be provided with the supplement. This includes around 8,000 homes for older people. The supplement provides additional safe methods that cover specific food safety issues found in care homes. These include handling the laundry, the safe storage of medicines and receiving food donated or given as gifts. It also provides practical, jargon-free information to help caterers comply with food hygiene regulations. Free of charge, the supplement can be ordered from FSA Publications. It is suitable for small residential care homes but not for nursing homes. http://www.food.gov.uk/news/newsarchive/2008/may/sfbbcare
