Abstract
Huskup, the reusable coffee cup producer celebrated their product design following this year’s P.E.A. (People. Environment. Achievement) awards. The UK’s leading sustainability awards recognises eco-friendly alternatives to help change the nation’s throwaway habits.

The P.E.A. awards also marked the UK’s first festival ceremony, and attracted green pioneers from across the UK and Europe. The event was held as part of Valley Fest in Chew Magna near Bristol.

Huskup founder, Rich Milton received the award for best product alongside winners from sectors ranging across energy and arts. Milton impressed the panel including founder of the P.E.A Awards, Jarvis Smith, in his innovative solution to the country’s single-use plastic programme. Britain throws away 2.5 billion takeaway cups, and the product aims to reduce this figure along with saving large quantities of rice husks from the incinerator.

The cup was founded in 2018 in a bid to harness one of the world’s most abundant food waste materials, the rice husk. The rice husk is the outer shell of the rice grain, which is a naturally robust material. Plastic, tree and toxin free the cups contain no melamine or BPA and are biodegradable at the end of their life. Despite the natural design, these cups are tough enough to take on the dishwasher and microwave.

Founder of Huskup, Rich Milton said: “This feels like a big moment for Huskup, with the eco community really getting behind us and shining a spotlight on a green product that can do so much to tackle the UK’s disposable coffee culture once and for all.”
