Following World Vegan Day, on 1 November, caterers and retailers are renewing their efforts to include more alternative diets. According to new research Brits spend £1.3 billion on vegan and vegetarian products a year.
The research involved over 2,000 UK adults and aimed to reveal how dietary trends are reshaping the industry.
The research revealed over 16 million people are consciously trying to eat less meat. Over one quarter of Brits (26%) said trends like Veganuary and Sugar Awareness Week encouraged them to eat less meat.
In 2019 more Brits are choosing to have a flexitarian diet, reducing the amount of meat, dairy and eggs they eat. The three core reasons behind this change to flexitarianism were cited as health issues, the environmental impact of meat and the ethical ramifications of eating meat.
