Abstract
Green Flag research found that Brits regard fish & chips as the ‘most British dish’ (67%), followed by a full English breakfast (60%) and a Sunday roast (57%).

The research also highlighted potential British dishes going extinct, with not even a tenth of those polled voting for black pudding (8%) or Eton mess (5&) as the ‘most British dish’.

The research went on to show the ultimate way to enjoy a fish and chip meal is by the seaside (54%) followed by eating with fingers (44%), over a knife and fork (19%). Half of the nation (50%) admitted to enjoying the meal the nostalgic way – wrapped in newspaper.

Green Flag, the breakdown cover provider, celebrated five decades of service by offering people a voucher for a portion of fish and chips from The Frying Squad in three locations across the UK in London, Manchester and Bristol.

The locations included:

  • Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester on 21st September, from 11am – 3pm
  • Cabot Circus in Bristol on 22nd September, from 11am – 3pm
  • Cardinal Place, London on 24th September, from 11am – 3pm
