More than a quarter (27%) of us like to eat last night’s Chinese, with another 19% agreeing ‘you can’t beat a bit of leftover Indian take-away for breakfast’.
Brits also love to eat home cooked leftovers for breakfast, with spaghetti bolognaise (12%) and shepherd’s pie (10%), among the evening meals we enjoy from the fridge the next morning.
The study also discovered British families throw away 730 portions of ‘leftovers’ every year, leaving three quarters (74%) feeling guilty and ashamed about the amount of food they waste.
Eight in ten (88%) say they regularly forget that they have leftovers in the fridge, with a further two thirds (68%) confessing that they plan to take them into work for lunch the next day but forget them.
In response HelloFresh has joined forces with low-waste chef Max La Manna to introduce the 'CurrEATulum', a syllabus developed in collaboration with Social Farms & Gardens. Its purpose is to educate children about the significance of combating food waste from an early age.
La Manna said: “Now, more than ever, it's imperative that we collectively reduce our daily food wastage.”
