Renovated school kitchen to serve Halal meals to local community

26th Oct 2010 - 00:00
Abstract
Bristol City Council and their catering partner Eden Foodservice have commissioned the services of Catering Design Group, to design, create and build two kitchens at the Whitehouse Centre in Bristol.
One of the kitchens will be a dedicated facility for the production of up to 5,000 Halal meals a week, to service schools in the local community. Philip Howard, managing director of Catering Design Group, said: "We are extremely pleased to be able to support Bristol City Council and Eden Foodservice in this fantastic facility to produce a more personal service for the diverse community of Bristol and feed pupils from the ethnic community." Marion McMeechan, headteacher at the Whitehouse Centre Pupil Referral Unit added: "We are delighted with the excellent response we have received to the new kitchen from pupils, parents and the local community. At a time when everyone has to be mindful of costs during the recession, we saw an opportunity to develop our existing facilities for the benefit of the pupils at Whitehouse and also the local community."
